The village
Where to rediscover ancient dreams
Tuscany is the magical landscape where kindness is all around and everything is both old and new .
Curzio Malaparte
Placed in a strategic position, Porrona was ruled for five centuries by two of the greatest families of the Senese nobility, the Tolomei and Piccolomini, and it has hosted numerous illustrious guests such as Pope Pius II Piccolomini, who made it their summer residence. In 1894 the ownership passed into the hands of Pietro Emilio Targes de Rochefort, a French nobleman. Porrona, almost completely renovated and protected by its ancient walls, retains its charm intact: you can still admire the ancient church Pieve di San Donato and the Castle, now privately owned, which makes a fine show of itself overlooking the charming central square, inhabited by cute cats that will not fail to purr in exchange for some food. Even the route that takes you to Casa Porrona will leave you breathless, winding as it does along hills that are the typical landmark of the Tuscan countryside, artfully created by nature and modeled by man. Each photo will become a fantastic postcard to add to the beautiful memories of your trip, and each season will give you new emotions, new colors and new scents that will touch your heartstrings.
